The complete potential of iPhone, the multimedia gadget, can be utilized by developing ingenious applications for it. The launch of the SDK (software development kit) by Apple in 2008 boosted iPhone application developer worldwide to come up with unique and customized applications for iPhone users.
The SDK, also known as the ‘tool chain’ includes:
Xcode: It is the integrated development environment (IDE), wherein iPhone applications are developed. It is the integral part of the iPhone application development kit and consists of a graphical debugger and a powerful source editor too. Interface builder: It helps in the designing and testing of user interfaces. The graphical editing environment of the interface builder is utilized by the iPhone application developer to design user interfaces and seamlessly integrate the applications to the 3G environment of iPhone. Instruments: The instrument retrieves data, analyzes and compares performance and displays the results graphically in real-time. It plays a pivotal role in the real-time optimization of iPhone applications.
An iPhone application developer should have a sound knowledge about using the SDK. The SDK uses the objective C language and runs only on the MAC OS X 1.5 platform (the OS of iPhone). The applications developed needs to be approved by Apple and can be distributed solely through App Store.
iPhone website development
There are various categories catering to which, iPhone applications are developed. Many companies specialize in a particular category. For example, a company may specialize in the domain of iPhone website development. An iPhone mobile development domain includes useful web 2.0 applications designed exclusively for iPhone, like:
Search tools. Web utilities. Social networking. Ecommerce websites. Travel, sports and entertainment and so on.
Outsourcing of iPhone application development
Outsource of iPhone application development has several advantages which mainly includes:
Firstly, it is cost effective. Outsourcing of IPhone applications gets the job done in lower costs. Customized applications can be developed without much investment which was otherwise necessary for the technical manpower and training. The rigmaroles of the iPhone applications- approval by Apple, guidelines etc are taken care by the companies.

e has been hailed as the best and greatest cell phone to ever come out. However, many people feel that the iPhone has many major flaws.
Not Available To All
One of the major iPhone flaws is that it is not available to everyone. This phone is only available to one carrier” AT&T. If the iPhone truly wanted to expand and change the world of cell phones, it would be available to more than just one carrier.
Slow Internet
AT&T only offers one type of internet service to iPhone customers. This is a major iPhone flaw. Other internet providers on other phone networks are much faster and more efficient.
Poor Battery Performance
If you have an iPhone, one of the iPhone flaws is that you will have to send your phone in every year or two to have a new battery replaced. Not only can you not do this yourself, but you will also need to pay to have the battery replaced. Except several days of withdraw from your iPhone while you wait to have the battery replaced!
No Global Positioning System!
Almost every new phone these days has a global positioning system. However, despite the huge price tag, a major iPhone flaw is that it does not have a global positioning system. There are programs, like Google Maps, available, but you have to know exactly where you are to get correct information.
If you choose to purchase an iPhone, make sure you know the iPhone flaws before spending your money.
No Adobe Flash Support
Even though iPhone is a more than capable web device, the biggest drawback as a web device is that the iPhone doesn\’t support Adobe\’s Flash technology, which means many multimedia-rich sites remain off limits. This should be overcome in the future as Adobe is apparently going to make its technology iPhone-friendly. The question is when?
No Video recording
Despite the iPhone\’s built-in two-megapixel camera, Apple didn\’t include video capabilities. This from a company that provides computers preloaded with iMovie and provides video viewing capabilities with most of their iPod range. So if you want to record video, you\’d better talk to Sony!
No multimedia messaging service
There are some things dirt-cheap phones do that the vaunted iPhone cannot. If you want to open an image sent to you via MMS (multimedia messaging service) from one of the dirt-cheap phones then don’t get an iPhone. The deficiency of support for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is one of the most annoying iPhone flaws.

Apple introduced iPhone to the world market in 2007 and its 3G version in 2008. iPhone is a revolution in the cell phone industry. The sophistication and the general technological advances that the iPhone affords are second to none. The iPhone has won rave reviews by one and all in the smart phone sector.
At the same time, it will be wise to delve a bit deeper and take a reality check. The flaws of the iPhone should not be ignored.
Pros:
Storage space – The iPhone boasts of a huge 8 GB storage capacity. In fact, a 16 GB version is in the tube.
Design – The iPhone dimensions measure 115.5mm x 61mm x 11.6mm and it weighs a paltry 135 Gms. This makes it a sleek looking gadget. The iPhone has a liquid crystal display and a HVGA touchscreen. It is easy to interact with the iPhone using our bare fingers on a virtual keyboard.
Internet connection – Email, web browsing and Wi-Fi or GSM/EDGE connectivity are the very necessary services rendered by an internet connection in the iPhone. Safari is the web browser provided on the iPhone. Exclusive sites for the iPhone have been created o attract the user.
Multimedia – An extremely sophisticated music library is incorporated inside the iPhone. Endless films and shows can be enjoyed on the iPhone. A link is provided to iTunes Store which makes download of latest songs very easy. YouTube videos can be watched on the iPhone.
Camera – The camera function is out of this world. The quality of pictures is just astounding. The user can upload, view and e-mail photographs of choice.
Ring tones – The user has the independence to create and customize a ring tone of choice. He also has the option to download any ring tone from the iTunes store
Cons:
Email – The user has to open the e-mail program every time he wants to check the mail. An automatic notification is not available on the iPhone. This inhibits the efficiency of accessing e-mails.
Bugs – Being technologically complex makes it accessible to many bugs and errors. The touchscreen sometimes does not respond and there are system crashes. Hackers have found a way to unlock and access information in an iPhone.
Missing basic utilities – There is no cut and paste option in the iPhone. Provision for delivery reports and MMS are also missing. These are the basic utilities in a cell phone which have not been provided for in the iPhone.
Overpriced – The main disadvantage of the iPhone is its exorbitant price. The iPhone is priced at around $500 – $600 which does not make it an easy buy for the average customer.
Conclusion:
The final verdict is a bit difficult to deliver. The option to purchase the iPhone rests entirely on the needs of the user. The excellent, big and bright display and gorgeous photos and videos are a big draw for the iPhone. Automatic spell checking and correction and a dynamic dictionary make text input an easy job.
The Visual Voicemail feature enables the user to just tap and play back any message displayed. At the same time, it is difficult to get used to the intricacies of a virtual keyboard, and use fingers dexterously for the purpose of navigation. AT&T`s telephone network is not very healthy. Browsing is difficult and very costly.
Despite all these drawbacks, Apple sold 270,000 iPhones in the first 30 hours after its launch. Right now, Apple has released iPhone 3G in twenty-two countries and is expected to launch its product in many more countries as well.
