A colorful splash page greets you before you choose one of twelve cartoon-y fighters. Eight of the fighters are unique individuals, like a ninja and a secret agent. The other four fighters are expressive emoticons. You then have several special moves to choose from. Many of the fighters share the same special moves, like Max Fire Balls, Death Slash, and Bounce Pass.

funky free ipod nanos xmas number 1 presents

These new iPod nanos are a riot of colour, even when the colour is charcoal grey. They are the coolest iPods yet.

There are nine, ranging from silver through to charcoal, purple, blue, green, yellow-gold and orange to red and fuchsia. There are two models, one with 8GB of solid-state memory ($249) and the other with 16GB ($329), a doubling of previous storage at roughly the same prices.

It is slimmer and lighter (38grams) but slightly longer than the previous “tall” nano and the click wheel is slightly larger. The slightly curved screen is now glass.

The case resumes the slim vertical format of the first (plastic case) and second (alloy case) nanos. The 32×240-pixel screen is sharp, brilliant and looks huge, although it is the same five-centimetre diagonal as the previous nano; just tipped up vertically.

An important addition is the accelerometer introduced in the first iPod touch. If you tilt the nano the screen changes from portrait to landscape, as on the iPhone and touch.

Shake it and the accelerometer will shuffle your music. Cover Flow, from ITunes, operates to scroll album art, just like on a Mac or an iPhone.

The accelerometer is also used in Maze, one of the three games on the nano. You tilt the iPod to run a ball through a maze – addictive but likely to drive you insane.

Purists suggest that the big lift for nanos occurred with the previous short, squat third-gen model; a Classic in miniature.

But for my money, this latest nano, sleekly curved and cunningly designed, returning to the slim verticality of the second generation, is the best yet in terms of design, software and electronic “sex appeal”. Battery life is better; there are more features for less money.

Except for the touch (because I bought an iPhone) I have owned a representative dozen or so of the 37models and generations of iPods to appear since the first scroll-wheel model arrived in October 2001.

I still have four: a black Classic (used with a Belkin TuneTalk stereo microphone for interviews), a “postage stamp” red shuffle, a red second-generation nano (also used with the Belkin mike) and now a fourth-generation charcoal-grey nano.

The offspring has designs on the “old” red nano and it will be difficult to resist her. “You have only two ears,” she said, thus demonstrating the keen observation and impressive logic present in the young. “You cannot possibly need three, let alone four.”

Ah, but these are desirable objects and, as any collector will tell you, function is not nearly as important as ownership.

So what of the desirability? Partly it is the design. They are beautiful in form and function. Their simplicity hides complex and clever technology. But there are also significant innovations.

The preview panel moved to the bottom of the screen where it is easier to read; it is smaller but you get more depth for track titles and other information.

In Settings you can increase the font size and shut off the preview to get more screen room. General and playback menus have been redesigned to improve readability.

You also get “Genius”, the software introduced with iTunes8 (a must-do download, free from the Apple website). You create a playlist on your Mac (or PC if you are still using one) and Genius recommends other music you might like.

The process is ongoing and new recommendations appear daily in your iTunes account for synching to the nano.

Finally, and one of this nano’s most interesting features: Spoken Menus, which uses the text-to-speech software from OSX to read the iPod’s menus out loud.

This helps if you have difficulty seeing the screen, as in bright daylight, or you could navigate music menus while driving (although safer not to, in my opinion). It also works with the metadata for track names, albums, and so on and it will speak information such as “low battery”.

The voice memo function is still there but the choice of “high” or “low” quality is gone. Recordings are now made in Apple lossless format, which uses much less memory than the previous WAV format.

This is a highly desirable new iPod and I love how it looks and works but I’m not handing any on. I like them all too much. grab your own free ipod nano

iGotchi 1.1.4 free download Cracked

Free iPhone 4G from freebiejeebies

If you’re old enough to remember the first Tamagotchi digital pets, you’ll know they were simple affairs. Looking after your pet took frequent presses of the ‘feed’, ‘play’, and ‘wash’ buttons and it was extremely difficult to keep it alive for more than a week. There was very little else involved in ‘playing’ with an original Tamagotchi.

Facebook 2.0 iPhone App Gets better for users

Apple’s iTunes store is now hosting the latest version of Facebook’s iPhone App. Facebook version 2.0 offers iPhone users functions that many felt were missing from the original offering. The biggest upgrades come via interactions with the social networking site, making navigating through friends, pictures and comment threads feel more like using the site through the Web.

The Facebook App version 2.0 claims to launch more quickly than its predecessors and boasts stability as one of its biggest improvements. This is especially important for iPhone users who felt the application lumbering along while it tried to load a large number of friends.

Apple iPhone users can also look forward to the full news feed and news feed comments. The Facebook news feed was one of the initial developments that made the social networking site so popular with users. By bringing that capability to the iPhone, Facebook is offering one of its core elements to users on the go.

One feature that was surprisingly lacking from the initial incarnation of the iPhone app was the friend request feature. Users couldn’t search for people they knew or accept friend requests that had been sent to them. Version 2.0 fixes this flaw.

The photo capabilities on Facebook are also significantly upgraded. Users can now tag photos and upload photo captions to their network from the iPhone.

The last noteworthy upgrade involves communication on the site. With Facebook iPhone App version 2.0, users can access their inbox and include message attachments to their outgoing e-mails.

Facebook version 2.0 for the Apple iPhone is now available for download from the iTunes store.

Ten Things You Will **** About the Iphone 2.0

iphone
Stig Kristoffersen asked:

1. No MMS. There were no words mentioned about MMS during the presentation at all, and there are no net pages that mention whether it will be available in version 2.0 of iPhone. Several blog sites have announced that they will integrate their services direct on the cell phone with the option to load pictures and text. We think that the telecom industry will miss this feature most, as they will loose their chance to offer more expensive animated picture services on their network. The opening for third party software on the iPhone makes it possible for the network providers to add this service on if they feel for it.

2. No video recording. The camera on the iPhone is more than capable to record videos, and with up to 16 GB storage it should be enough storage to record more than most of us need. But there is no video function, and this is a petty since Apple makes superior video editing software for their computers. If any programmers wants to, he can make a video recorder through the camera available. So for those who wants to make a software for video recording, it is just to start right away.

3. No docking station. The tiny plastic stand that comes together with version 1.0 of the iPhone is now extra add on. This is the same development as happened with the iPod, where Apple went from full package with charger and docking station to a package where you hardly got a power cable included.

4. No video conference. This is maybe the least missed features in the iPhone as this is a very little used feature in the network providers product portfolio.

5. Still only 2 Megapixles in the camera. It is a myth that more megapixles makes better pictures, but as long as all other factors are the same, it would be better with more mega pixles on the camera. iPhone makes very good pictures with the small camera available, so it is really a shame that Apple does not provide more megapixles on the camera than they do.

6. No wirless iTunes syncronization. You still have to connect through the cable to transfer music. With Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G the cable should have been history for the small updates one have to perform daily, like music f.inst. The first synchronization of the iPhone has to be performed by cable, as 16 GB will take a while on the Wi-Fi, but the rest of the time should have been able to be performed through wireless connection.

7. No Adobe Flash. iPhone has a very good internet browser. It is so good that it is used for most mobile traffic to Google, this despite that iPhone is nowhere close to dominate the market on the cell phone side. It is therefore disappointing that Flash is not supported on the iPhone, and even more disappointing when you want to browse a web page that you need to see a flash movie before you can go further into the page.

8. No Java. This means that you still can not use several net banks used around the world on iPhone net browser.

9. No extra Bluetooth functions. Bluetooth on the existing version 1.0 of iPhone is limited in use. You can not send files between iPhone and other cell phones. Nor can it transfer between the iPhones or other iPhones..There is no option for using bluetooth head phones and there is no chance to connect to a PC.

10. No special price for you, my friend!  This marks the end where you can take your stronger currency and buy a iPhone in US shops and then hack it home. Sure, the hackers will find ways to avoid the blockings made on the iPhone, but you will need to pay anyway. The reason people could buy the first version of iPhone cheap, was because the consumer could sign the subscription at home. The consumer did not commit to anything in the shop, and this opened for using local SIM-cards. In the next version of the iPhone, the consumer will demand you sign a subscription in the shop before you can take the iPhone with you home.

Who Needs an Apple Iphone?

iphone
Chris Simpson asked:

Although the launch of the Apple iPhone means that many who see the next generation smartphone is sure to want one, we have identified a few key consumers who might find the iPhone an indispensable tool.

The Students:

Given Apple’s close link to the academic community, it’s inevitable that there will be some alliances forged between the two realms of Apple’s cutting edge design and technology and the needs of academia.

One of Steve Jobs’ previous start-ups, NeXT, focused on higher education and business markets, while its Mac line of desktops are used in biotechnology research and analytical computations.

Students using the iPhone will find its features like the ability to playback MP3 tracks useful. Not so much for catching the latest pop songs, but rather to catch education-related podcasts.

The iPhone’s ability to stream video means that e-learning or distance learning can take place, as long as the academic institution has the infrastructure in place.

Having a 2-megapixel digital camera built into the iPhone means that photos can be taken with ease, whether it’s for assignments or for personal recreation.

Road Warriors:

Business people on the move will find the iPhone to be useful, especially with the availability of full featured Internet access, rather than the abbreviated web surfing currently available on many smartphones.

This means that not only will you be able to check for information on the Internet, it also means that secure business transactions can take place easily.

The availability of Internet access over Wi-Fi networks mean that available Web 2.0 services will allow mobile office workers to access their data on the move.

Freed from being deskbound, the Apple iPhone is currently enabled to access Google’s Maps application. Over time, you can expect Apple’s strategic partners to develop more business applications.

Business Owners:

The workhorse nature of the iPhone together with its close integration to Apple’s Safari Internet browser, mean that business applications can be used seamlessly.

We can make an educated guess that the separation between the computer and your mobile iPhone device will be erased over time.

Perhaps we might even predict that the iPhone will gradually take over the functions of your laptop or notebook computer over time.

With Apple’s support for its developer network, this means that a new generation of business applications can be expected on the horizon.

Apple’s broad appeal is not just limited to the iPhone however, it’s previous products such as the Mac, its followup brethren the iMac and the iPod digital music player have received a warm reception from its users.

Apple Sell Unlocked IPhones 3G in Hong Kong

Apple is selling the iPhone 3G on its Apple Store Web site in Hong Kong, promising the phones “can be activated with any wireless carrier.”

The Apple Store in Hong Kong is selling the 8G-byte and 16G-byte iPhone 3G models for HK$5,400 (US$695) and HK$6,200, respectively, with free shipping. The store advertises the compatibility of the phones with any carrier, saying, “Simply insert the SIM [subscriber identity module] from your current phone into iPhone 3G and connect to iTunes 8 to complete activation.”

On the Apple Store’s main page for Hong Kong, the site says, “Buy directly from Apple. And choose your carrier.”

Apple did not offer an explanation for why it started selling unlocked iPhones in Hong Kong, or indicate whether such sales will be offered in other markets.

The iPhone 3G has been available in Hong Kong since July 11 through Hutchison Telecommunications. The cheapest monthly plan offered by the operator charges HK$2,938 for the 8G-byte version and HK$3,738 for the 16G-byte one, along with a two-year contract that costs HK$188 per month.

Checks of the Apple Store in the U.S., the U.K., and Singapore, show the iPhone 3G is not available for sale online. Instead, the sites offer a link to a list of stores where the phone is on sale.
